Seldon Crisis Averted

Filed under: Uncategorized — frameworker @ 7:55 am

I misread the documentation for PDFView convertRect:fromPage: and didn’t understand that the result depended on the current page.

It does.

But for a minute I thought I was losing my mind. And you know what Dan Quayle had to say about that 🙂

Re: FileVault Security Compromised with Compressed Air

I believe the correct solution to the problem of latent encryption key “fingerprints” in RAM is to obfuscate them when going to sleep or shutting down. That could be done by writing over them.

Read Glenn Fleishman’s article in TidBITS for an overview of this situation. Though I don’t agree with his authentication suggestion.

OpenFormula INT function considered harmful

Filed under: Uncategorized — frameworker @ 9:53 pm

Three of the 109+ OpenFormula Functions are ROUND, TRUNC and INT. INT is defined as TRUNC if the argument is non-negative; but if the argument is negative INT is defined as TRUNC – 1 if (arg != TRUNC(arg)). This doesn’t make sense to me, and feels like a booby-trap waiting for its next victim.
